Rovers gift gives Uxbridge the points

Barton Rovers hosted Uxbridge in this second league match of the season following a fine win away at Egham on Saturday and looking to get their home campaign off to a winning start. however, having failed to reach anything like the level of Saturday's performance Barton paid the price by slipping to a narrow home defeat. There was a distinct lack of quality football from both sides throughout but it was Uxbridge who looked the more likely to score and, right on the half-time whistle, score they did through an opportunist strike by their centre forward Joe Wright when he capitalised on hesitation in the Barton defence. In truth, after what was a real lacklustre first 45 minutes neither side deserved to be ahead. The Barton lads must have taken something of a rollicking in the dressing room at half-time but there was precious little for the home faithful to enjoy second half other than a Ryan Haugh effort which found the net in the 65th minute only for a linesman's flag to defuse the celebrations. Barton huffed and puffed their way through the 2nd half but never at any point appeared in real control and able to apply serious pressure on the Uxbridge defence with far too many early upfield punts meaning their midfield trio were largely absent from the game
