Bad day at the office

A game in 2 halves

Rovers stuttering season continued on Saturday with a heavy defeat at the hands of Uxbridge FC on a bitterly cold day in Middlesex. Barton went into the game missing key personal with club captain Paul Andrews being one of them. From the off Rovers looked well up for a fight but disaster struck after only 6 mins when a free kick by the corner flag snuck in at the near post with assistance from Keeper Matt Finlays glove. Andrew Phillips had a great effort go wide before Robbie Parsons saw his tame effort gathered by home keeper Paul McCarthy. A quick fire brace by Uxbridge’s Dylan Kearney on 20 and 23 mins killed off any hope of a Rovers revival, both goals coming courtesy of lack lustre defending something that continued for 90 minutes. Philips pulled a goal back from the spot on 28 mins to give the Barton massive some hope but with Rovers defence in bits the game was always going to be an uphill struggle. Some good work from the off in the 2nd half resulted in a Jack Keating shot being pushed over followed by a save by McCarthy from an Ivan Machardo shot but again some way wood defending allowed Uxbridge to add a 4th on 56 mins and complete Kearneys hatrick. Two further goals late on compounded Rovers to an abysmal 1-6 defeat and another pointless journey round the M25.

Rovers manager Tony Fontenelle commented after the game “ If we could of kept the ball in their half we would have been on for a good game. Parsons, Phillips, Keating and Machardo all had good games but sadly every time the ball entered our half we just capitulated. Paul Andrews suspension was a massive loss for us but in all games you have to fight for the points and we didn’t fight in our half at all. The lads are in for a fitness session on Tuesday and all Christmas festivities will be put on hold this week”
