Rovers progress in FA Cup

August 25, 2018

A scoring double from Rovers Man of the Match Victor Osubu puts Rovers in the hat for the next round draw. Rothwell opened brightly and were tidy in possession whereas Rovers only seemed to employ long-ball tactics for the majority of the opening half. Rothwell came very close to opening the scoring before Rovers went ahead after 6 minutes when Osubu's free-kick from the left was missed by all and nestled in the back of the net. Rothwell created several further chances and grabbed a deserved equaliser when their captain Lewis Odell made a good run down the Barton right before firing home with some style in the 26th minute to make the score 1-1 at half-time.
Rovers bossed the second half but were made to fight for the win all the way by this dogged Rothwell side but MOM Victor Osubu capitalised on an error by Rothwell keeper Martyn Thorpe to put Rovers ahead in the 71st minute. Drew Phillips made the result safe for Rovers in the 81st minute with a fine turn and shot to make it 3-1. Rothwell were not done though and Adefolarin Adenidun notched a consolation for Rothwell in added time to make the final score 3-2.
