Rovers made the short trip to Bedford Town's stadium for the 2019 Bedfordshire Senior Cup Final match against Biggleswade Town.
A tough ask versus their Step 4 opponents who are vying for a play-off spot in the Southern Premier Division. As expected, the Biggleswade line-up included Rovers 'old boys' Lucas Perry and David Longe-King who no doubt would be doing their utmost to prevent a Rovers win.
The Rovers cause wasn't enhanced when, down to traffic issues, skipper Paul Andrews was unable to get to the ground in time for kick-off and midfielder Stef Bailey had to slot in at centre-half with Lee Close. Straight from the kick-off Biggleswade were on the front foot and, with just a couple of minutes on the clock Town's left-winger Solomon Nwaboukei will still be puzzled as to how he shot wide with the Rovers goal gaping. Unfortunately for Rovers in such a high profile match, this start seemed to set the trend for the remainder of this match with Biggleswade the dominant side and Rovers existing on scraps at best this entire 90 minutes. First half chances came and went with Town's Matt Ball and Jack Bradshaw seeing the best of those but failing to convert. Connor Vincent was prominent for Rovers but support and service from the other Rovers forwards and midfielders was scarce as Rovers won the ball and just as quickly squandered possession playing right into Town's hands.
Sporadic chances for Rovers in the second half failed to bring Town stopper Sam Donkin into any serious action and the second half resumed where the first 45 minutes left off with Town in total command. The only surprise was that it took until the 58th minute for Town to double their lead through right winger Sean Lucien assisted by some naive Rovers defending it must be said. The game and destiny of the cup, if any previous doubt existed, was put to bed when, in the final minute of normal time Bradshaw made it three for Town. So a night, performance and result Rovers will quickly want to put behind them but congratulations to Biggleswade Town for a thoroughly professional showing and deserved cup winners for 2019.
