Match Preview: Romford vs Barton Rovers

Barton Rovers begin their Emirates FA Cup campaign this weekend with a trip to Romford in the Extra Preliminary Round.

With a place in the Preliminary Round at stake against either Kempston Rovers or Baldock Town, the Rovers will be looking to make a positive start to their cup journey and build momentum early in the 2026/27 season.

The Opposition

Romford provide the challenge this weekend and will be aiming to make home advantage count. The hosts will be looking to progress in one of football's most prestigious competitions and are expected to provide a stern test for Barton.

The Essex-based side have already opened their league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Basildon United. Jaxon Brown gave Romford the lead in first-half stoppage time before Alfie Leach struck the winner in the 85th minute to secure all three points.

Previous Meeting

The sides last met on Saturday 7th September 2019 in the Emirates FA Cup, with The Rovers producing an impressive 4-0 victory to book their place in the Second Qualifying Round. Although almost six years have passed since that tie, both teams will be determined to progress, setting the stage for another competitive cup tie.

Rovers' Form

The Rovers head into the Cup tie looking to build on a series of encouraging performances throughout pre-season. After a productive month of preparation, the squad will be hoping to carry that momentum into the opening competitive fixture of the new campaign. With a place in the next round on the line, the Rovers will be eager to begin their season with a positive result and continue their FA Cup journey.

We look forward to seeing as many Barton supporters as possible making the journey to Romford this weekend. Safe travels, and Up The Rovers!
