Rovers held to 1-1 draw against Leverstock Green.

Barton Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw by Leverstock Green on Saturday, with the visitors finding a late equaliser to claim a point from their second league fixture.

The Rovers started brightly and created the first real opening, but Leverstock came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute. Joe McCarthy reached the by-line before pulling the ball back to George Mitchell-Gears, whose effort struck the inside of the post and bounced clear.

The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute, as a lapse in the Leverstock defence allowed Powfil Raposo to race through on goal before calmly slotting past Ryan North to give Rovers the lead.

Leverstock looked for a response, with Jack Allen heading wide from a corner in the 30th minute, while Barton went close to doubling their advantage shortly after the restart. Tyrone Shiham found space inside the box in the 51st minute but lifted his effort over the bar.

The visitors continued to apply pressure and created their best opportunity of the afternoon in the 63rd minute. Allen broke through on goal, but Matt Boylan stood tall to deny him with a save using his legs.

Ryan North then kept Leverstock in the game at the other end, producing an excellent stop in the 72nd minute to turn Ayman Assas' effort around the near post.

Barton were unable to hold on, however, as Leverstock levelled seven minutes from time. Substitute Ashton Corder picked up possession in the middle of the Rovers half before driving forward and firing a low effort beyond Boylan and into the corner.

Corder almost completed a turnaround in the 89th minute, but Boylan made the save to keep the scores level.

Rovers pushed for a winner in the closing stages and came closest in stoppage time, when former Leverstock striker Rawn Seale headed wide from close range.

Despite the late pressure, neither side could find a winner as the points were shared at The Winton Haulage Stadium.
